Soak up the Springtime in Sydney

September marks the end of hibernation in Sydney as the city’s outdoor venues turn off their heaters, spectacular walking tracks entice early morning risers, and beachside events pop up on the calendar.

Bondi celebrates Spring with the Festival of the Winds – Australia’s largest kite flying festival - and Sculpture by the Sea, which draws thousands of people down the beautiful coastal track to Bronte. Both are family friendly and best enjoyed with a quick ocean dip and something to nibble on from the nearby farmers’ markets.

Sydney’s north shore plays host to the Manly Jazz Festival in Spring. This enduring local favourite sees outdoor stages lining the Corso, attracting artists from around the world. Other things to do as the weather warms up in this neck of the woods include secluded swims at Shelley Beach, the Spit to Manly walk, and afternoon drinks on the deck at the Wharf Hotel.

Wine lovers will be pleased to find some great events on the Spring calendar. Two favourites are Wine Island and Pinot Palooza: the first because of its spectacular set up on Clark Island, right in the middle of Sydney Harbour; and the second because of its buzzing atmosphere and seemingly endless collection of perfect pinots.

If you feel like getting active around town, sign yourself up for the Sydney Running Festival where you can soak up the city’s best views on anything from a 3.5km family fun run to an all-out 42.2km marathon. If swimming is more your style, the Dawny to Cockatoo Island Swim provides the perfect opportunity to splash your way across the harbour, while the Coogee Island Challenge puts you out in the open ocean.

While all these events are huge draw cards for the city, the warmer months are also a wonderful time to simply explore Sydney’s attractions. Ferry rides under the Harbour Bridge are more pleasant, walks through the Royal Botanic Gardens reward with vistas of flowers and emerging plant life, and Sydney’s rooftop bars are once again in full swing, making the most of higher temperatures and longer daylight hours. Ocean pools also win back their appeal, whether you’re eyeing off iconic Icebergs or tranquil Wylie’s Baths. Outdoor dining at The Grounds of Alexandria or the newly renovated Bondi Pavilion become excellent options.

Settle into one of Adina’s spacious apartment-style hotels just metres from Bondi or Coogee Beach to see why Spring in Sydney is the perfect getaway.
